Traversing The Northern Plains 2021. Helen Mathwin and Susie Elliott, commissioned by The Castlemaine State Festival
In 1841 the first squatters moved into the central and northern plains of Victoria with the intention of making a home. Nearly 180 years later the concepts of home and connection to landscape are problematic. Traversing The Northern Plains is a durational installation that will unfold over the course of the Festival. The work seeks to explore evolving assumptions about inhabiting a landscape through the making process and the use/ manipulation of natural elements.
