Tender, is The Night presented for the 2021 Castlemaine Fringe festival.
In an overgrown disused site by the castlemaine train station a 2mtr disk is suspended from a tree, shifting gently in the breeze. The surface of the luminous disk features slow motion black and white footage of indigenous rodeo rider Anthony Thomas riding an explosive young horse. Beneath the disk a roughly marked out rodeo ring that replicates Thomas’s setting.
Tender is The Night was developed as a partner work to ‘There is no Shame in Delight’, presented as part of the 2021 Castlemaine State Festival. Both works explore connect and disconnect, the urge to belong and the ethics of this on unceded land.
