A close inspection of this triptych reveals deep lines scratched into the dull coats of the Kangaroos as they stand locked in combat and bright synthetic paint. The superimposed sun- reminiscent of a school play set heightens, brightens the scene. This piece is the first of the Kangaroo series that has had numerous presentations as Helen seeks to explore the relationship between our most iconic Australian animal and discomfort surrounding nationhood in contemporary Australia.
